Atlanta United have completed the signing of Colombian winger Edwin Mosquera from Deportivo Independiente via Major League Soccer’s U22 Initiative, the club announced Tuesday.

The 21-year-old is the club’s third signing via the initiative alongside Argentine midfielders Santiago Sosa and Franco Ibarra, and arrives at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on a four-year contract.

“Edwin is an exciting winger with a unique profile and is someone who will bring a different dynamic to our team,” Atlanta United vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club press release. “He will add competition to our attacking group and we’re excited to welcome him to Atlanta United.”

Mosquera has enjoyed spells in Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina across his short club career so far, making a combined 56 appearances and contributing four assists, though he’s yet to score his first professional goal.

At international level, Mosquera has two caps for the Colombian U20 team and both scored and assisted in a 5-1 friendly win over Ecuador in December 2020.

Mosquera joins Mexicans Raul Gudiño and Juan José Purata among Atlanta United‘s MLS secondary transfer window signings, while the club also signed Aiden McFadden from their USL affiliate, Atlanta United II.

The Five Stripes are 11th in the Eastern Conference following their 3-0 defeat to Austin FC at the weekend and host Real Salt Lake on Wednesday.
