Manchester United are reportedly in contact with Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford.
What’s the word?
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Austria international “is a candidate for MUFC next to Brobbey from Leipzig”.
The Sky Sports journalist added: “Talks with the management from Kalajdzic have taken place but no personal meeting so far. Manchester United is very interesting for him. Bayern and Dortmund are not in.”
Therefore, with the player reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford, you would hope that United could negotiate a fee with Stuttgart and bring in the Austrian as soon as possible, as Ten Hag is clearly in desperate need of attacking reinforcements this summer.
Supporters will be buzzing
United were already in need of attackers even before Cristiano Ronaldo made it clear that he wants to leave Old Trafford in pursuit of Champions League football.
The Red Devils saw both Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani leave on free transfers, while Mason Greenwood looks unlikely to ever feature again.
Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both struggled immensely last season, scoring only five Premier League goals between them. Therefore, signing a new striker must be a priority for the new manager this summer, and Kalajdzic could be an excellent option.
Should United sign Kalajdzic?
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a successful spell with Stuttgart, contributing 24 goals and nine assists in just 57 appearances for Die Roten.
At 6 foot 7, the striker offers a serious threat in the air, while WhoScored suggests that his main strengths are headed attempts, aerial duels and finishing, which emphasises his ability as a target man.
If Ronaldo is to leave, United would need a new focal point to their attack, and Kalajdzic’s obvious physical attributes suggest that he could be very effective at bringing the likes of Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes into the attack.
With the season set to kick off in less than a month’s time, new signings would appear to be essential if Ten Hag is to be a success, and United supporters will surely be delighted to hear that the club are in talks with a goal poacher in Kalajdzic.
