Opening up this weekend’s Irish Premier Division fixtures, Drogheda will host Bohemians on Friday night in what could be a cagey affair.
Starting with the hosts, managing to pick up what was a shock victory on home soil last weekend, Drogheda will be desperate to build off of that result here. Claiming a gritty 1-0 victory at home against former champions Dundalk, Kevin Doherty’s men almost find themselves sat in Premier Division limbo. Bouncing back from that sluggish 3-0 loss away at St. Patrick’s when opening July, the Clarets have largely gained a reputation for their rugged approach. Although last weekend’s 1-0 win against Dundalk might have draw a line under their four-match winless run, it should be noted that Drogheda have suffered just a single top-flight defeat since the middle of May. Once again shocking almost everyone across Ireland on that run as they snatched a 1-0 victory against Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda could be smelling another chance here.
As for the visitors, last seen on Premier Division duties picking up a routine 3-1 win against rock-bottom UC Dublin, Bohemians find themselves in a similar position to Friday’s opponents. Also battling it out at the foot of the Premier Division table, Keith Long’s men have managed to win just a pair of their last six domestic contests, a run that stems back to May 20th. Likewise, showing some extended issues at the back, fans around Dalymount Park should also be worried by their side’s continued struggles on the road. Despite being last seen on their travels picking up that 3-1 win against leading relegation scrappers UC Dublin, the Bohs have lost each of their other three Premier Division away fixtures. However, it should be highlighted, with each of the last nine meetings between Friday’s opponents finish with over 1.5 goals, we’re backing a similar outcome.
Bet: Over 1.5 goals at Drogheda vs Bohemians 2/5 for Friday’s Irish Premier Division contest @ 888sport
