Official: Manchester United sign Christian Eriksen on free transfer

Manchester United have, on Friday, confirmed the signing of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

The Dane was a free agent after spending six months on loan with Premier League outfit Brentford, following his return to football on the back of his collapse at Euro 2020.

Eriksen looked as sharp as ever for the Bees and, as a result, generated a decent amount of interest for his services this summer.

His former club Tottenham were linked, but Manchester United have won the race for the midfielder.

Manchester United confirmed that Eriksen has signed a three-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2025.

After signing for United, Eriksen said: “Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling.

“I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach. Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future. I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.”

Eriksen is United’s second signing of the summer following the capture of Tyrell Malacia earlier this month.

Elsewhere, the Red Devils appear to be closing in on a move for Lisandro Martinez, while negotiations for Frenkie de Jong continue to drag out.
