After a disastrous season in the Premier League which left Everton in a relegation scrap, there are high expectations on the powerbrokers at Goodison Park to improve the situation and the squad, and Farhad Moshiri has now spoken out to confirm the Toffees’ transfer plans.

What’s the latest?

The Everton owner has broken his public silence amid speculation surrounding the club’s financial struggles, a potential takeover and their transfer plans.

In a statement cited by The Athletic‘s Everton reporter Greg O’Keeffe, Moshiri claims: “There has been much talk of investment in our football club recently – even takeovers – but I want to clarify that there is no ‘for sale’ sign currently hanging outside Everton Football Club.”

“My commitment to the club remains strong and focused and Kevin Thelwell and the Chairman are currently working hard to bring in new players to improve Frank Lampard’s squad.

“There will be new signings and I would ask supporters to judge us at the end of the transfer window – not now – and to listen to official club channels for information.”

Supporters will be excited

It is no secret that Moshiri has had a turbulent relationship with the Goodison Park faithful, and many supporters of the club have made their anger towards the Everton board clear with a number of protests throughout last season, but supporters must be excited to hear that there is clarity on some issues.

Everton's Richarlison celebrates scoring their first goal

Firstly, where did Everton finish in the Premier League?

Signing new players is the most important aspect in the owner’s statement, as there is a desperate need for improvement within the squad after the disappointing Premier League campaign which saw them only scrape survival in their penultimate game of the season.

Everton have already signed James Tarkowski on a free transfer to bolster the defence when they return to competitive action next month, but with Richarlison leaving the club this summer, there is still plenty of work to be done to ensure that Frank Lampard’s can again compete in the top half of the table.

Can Moshiri make the right choices for Everton?

Everton have been linked with a number of players so far this summer, including Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja and Morgan Gibbs-White. They have already made a £25m bid for the latter, and although it was rejected by Wolves, the Toffees remain interested in the 22-year-old.

The Merseysiders struggled with huge injury problems last term – in fact, they had the worst injury rate per 1,000 minutes in the entire Premier League – so Lampard will surely be hoping that his team can maintain a good level of fitness next season and also bring in the right amount of squad depth to avoid the mistakes of the past.

With that being said, it is looking promising for the Toffees in terms of making new signings, but they will need to act fast so that Lampard can work with his squad to develop the best plan of action going into the new season.
