West Bromwich Albion have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Okay Yokuslu.
What’s the news?
According to a recent tweet from journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu on Friday, the midfielder has agreed a three-year deal with the Baggies and is on his way to England for his medical checks.
The 28-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo at the start of the month following the expiry of his contract at the Spanish club.
Earlier this month, Baggies manager Steve Bruce played down the possibility of securing a deal for the Turkey international.
However, speaking after West Brom’s 3-0 win over Northampton Town, Bruce changed his tune on the matter and revealed that the club had a chance to sign the player.
Now that it has been reported that Albion are looking likely to seal a free transfer for Yokuslu, this highlights just how quickly things can change when it comes to the transfer window.
A massive coup for West Brom
Despite only starting six of the 19 La Liga games in which he played last season for Celta and Getafe, where he spent the second half of last season on loan, the Baggies will know what they would be getting from the midfielder.
Having spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at The Hawthorns, during which he played 16 Premier League games, the £2.7m-rated midfielder will have some knowledge of the club and what it takes to play in the team.
In his 16 league appearances, Yokuslu provided one assist, won 33 tackles and made more interceptions (42) than any other player in the Baggies’ squad at the time.
Would you be happy to see Yokuslu return to West Brom?
This backs up why the midfielder, who was earning £29k-per-week last season, was dubbed “tenacious” by Kyle Bartley as well as being “good on the ball.”
The player also made 25 blocks, 40 clearances and 89 successful pressures, which shows why it’d be a big coup from the club to sign him on a free transfer this summer.
In addition to securing free transfers for the likes of John Swift and Jed Wallace, adding Yokuslu to that list would make it an impressive hat-trick of free signings this summer for West Brom.
