Final fee revealed as Man United announce Lisandro Martinez deal

Premier League giants Manchester United have taken to social media on Sunday, to unveil the latest addition to the club’s first-team ranks.

The player set to take his talents to Old Trafford with a view to the 2022/23 campaign? Lisandro Martinez.

Stopper Martinez, of course, has long been tipped for a Premier League switch.

Amid the ongoing efforts of both Arsenal and Manchester United to reinforce their respective backlines ahead of the new campaign, the two giants of English football identified the Argentine international as a priority target.

Big-money proposals on the part of both clubs, in turn, were tabled, albeit with the latter having emerged as clear frontrunners over the course of the last week.

This comes owing to both a willingness to meet Ajax’s hefty asking price, and the presence of ex-Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

In turn, on Sunday, it has come as little surprise to hear of Martinez’s imminent move to Manchester finally being confirmed.

As per an announcement across the Red Devils’ website and social media platforms:

‘Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez, subject to medical, to player terms being finalised, and to UK visa requirements.’

Ajax, meanwhile, have too announced that a deal has been struck, with the Eredivisie champions primed to secure an initial fee of €57.37m, followed by a further €10m in potential bonuses:

“Ajax and Man Utd have reached agreement for Lisandro Martínez. Transfer subject to medical and contractual agreement of both clubs with player. Defender still under contract with Ajax until 30 June 2025. Ajax agreed fee of €57.37m. Can increase to €67.37m.”
