Southampton slap hefty price tag on Kyle Walker-Peters amid Arsenal and Manchester United interest

Arsenal and Manchester United have been warned that it would take a bid of around £40m to tempt Southampton into selling star fullback Kyle Walker-Peters this summer, after reports credited both sides with an interest in the English defender.

Both the Gunners and Erik ten Hag’s new side are on the lookout for reinforcements this summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to upgrade on Cedric Soares and to provide cover for the often injured Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu in the right-back slot of his new look side.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are in need of a right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka free to depart Old Trafford this summer, leaving only Diogo Dalot as an option on the right side of defence for new boss Erik ten Hag.

However, both sides are sure to be stopped in their tracks by the hefty price-tag that has been placed on the 25-year-old, despite his impressive showings since moving to St Mary’s two years ago.

Tottenham opt against buy-back

One club who could well have acquired him cheaper than the £40m stated price was Tottenham, who reportedly had a £30m buy-back clause on the defender that they sold for £12m in 2020.

However, the impending arrival of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough, and the strong showing of Matt Doherty under Antonio Conte during parts of last season, strongly suggests that they will not be taking that option up in the near future.

This, combined with the fact that Walker-Peters is under contract on the south coast until 2025, leaves the Saints in a strong bargaining position for any potential suitors this summer.
