Celtic have seen several players make moves away from the Parkhead club throughout this latest summer transfer window.
Names such as Tom Rogic, Nir Bitton and Ismaila Soro have all waved goodbye to Glasgow over recent weeks for moves elsewhere.
Another name that could be following in the footsteps of these departed players this summer is Christopher Jullien.
After being linked with a proposed move to Schalke back in June, the deal fell through and the Frenchman still remains a Celtic player, for now.
Bearing in mind how the defender only made one appearance for his side across all competitions last season, despite recovering from his long-term knee injury in February, it’s easy to see why the player has been linked with an exit.
Should the centre-back find himself eventually leaving Ange Postecoglou’s ranks in the coming weeks, one player that the Bhoys have been linked with that could be a perfect heir for the 29-year-old is Malick Thiaw.
With 142 appearances to his name for Schalke across their senior and youth sides, the defender, who is currently valued around the €15m mark (£11m) according to CIES, has scored 14 goals and provided five assists for the club, showing how useful he can be in front of goal.
This is similar to Jullien, who has ten goals and four assists under his belt in 62 appearances for the Hoops.
Last season saw the 20-year-old top the list for interceptions made (55) and tackles won (45) at the German club, highlighting how much of a capable defender he is.
Would you be disappointed to see Jullien leave Celtic this summer?
As for Jullien, with 136 domestic appearances to his name from the start of the 2016/17 season, he has made 129 interceptions and won 84 tackles in the process.
Hailed by Christian Gross as an “excellent” player that has “great potential” to improve, Thiaw certainly has the talent to be an ideal heir for the Celtic defender or even a potential replacement for him this summer if he does end up leaving.
If an opportunity to sign the young German arises before the summer transfer window ends, this is something that the Bhoys should not think twice about pouncing, regardless of what happens with Jullien.
