Juventus have beaten Inter in the race to sign highly-rated defender Gleison Bremer from Torino, 90min understands.

Inter had been heavy favourites to sign Bremer this summer, but Juventus have swooped in in the 11th hour to sign the centre back. La Vecchia Signora stepped up their interest in recent days when it was clear that a deal between Inter and Torino was not finalised despite talks.

90min can report that the reason for Inter’s inability to get a deal over the line was due to Milan Skriniar still being at the club. The club had expected to have already sold the defender to Paris Saint-Germain at this point in the transfer window – with Skriniar already agreeing personal terms with the Ligue 1 champions – but Inter’s €80m asking price has proved to be a sticking point.

Sources have confirmed that Inter are now looking at keeping hold of Skriniar this summer, with other defensive options on the market being limited now that Bremer is signing for Juventus.

Juve had been targeting a move for Pau Torres as a potential replacement for Matthijs de Ligt in recent weeks, having stepped up their pursuit of a defender following positive talks with Bayern over the future of the Dutchman – who 90min understands already has a general agreement over personal terms with the Bavarian club.

Due to Inter’s difficulties however, Juventus have been able to swoop in and sign last season’s Serie A defender of the year from under the noses of their biggest rivals – a fact that the club are said to be delighted about.
