The White House reported today that President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19.
After the news broke the White House then shared the president’s detailed diagnosis letter, sent by Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor to Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House Press Secretary.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor’s diagnosis letter
The subject of the letter was: President Biden Screened “Positive” for SARS-CoV-2
“This morning, as part of our routine screening program for the President, the SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected by antigen testing. This result was subsequently confirmed via Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing.”
He then went on to talk about the president’s current symptoms.
“On questioning, President Biden is currently experiencing mild symptoms, mostly rhinorrhea (“runny nose”) and fatigue, with an occasional dry cough, which started yesterday evening.”
“Given that he meets U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) criteria for PAXLOVID, I have recommended initializing such treatment”
PAXLOVID is a drug developed by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals to treat the SARS-CoV-2. It can be used in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 that are at risk of progressing to severe COVID-19.
It must be taken within five days after COVID-19 symptoms begin.
The letter then continued to talk about the prognosis for President Biden.
“The President is fully vaccinated and twice-boosted, so I anticipate that he will respond favorably, as most maximally protected patients do. Early use of PAXLOVID in this case provides additional protection against severe disease”.
Dr. O’Conner also added that the President would isolate to comply with CDC recommendations.
“He will isolate in accordance with Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. I will keep your office updated with any changes in his condition or treatment plan.”
