The fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas, Nevada continues to inch closer, and one of boxing’s living legends has weighed in the upcoming matchup.
Julio Cesar Chavez, the Mexican legend who fought from 1980 to 2005, believes the third fight between the two men will serve up great entertainment.
“It’s going to be a great fight,” Chavez told El Universal. “As a Mexican I want Saul to win, but in the ring, the best fighter will win.”
Although Chavez is backing Canelo, he knows it won’t be an easy fight for his compatriot given Golovkin’s ability in the ring.
“I expect it to be a complicated fight, very difficult,” said Chavez. “Saul is at his weight. Golovkin is a dangerous boxer and it will be a great fight.”
The trilogy fight between the two should be an intense encounter given how the previous two fights have gone.
“They already know each other and I think it’s going to be a great fight. Let’s hope Saul comes out on top. His punches to the body are going to be fundamental if he wants to win,” Chavez concluded.
When is Canelo vs Golovkin III?
The trilogy fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will take place on September 17, 2022 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
