Rangers have done a lot of transfer business so far this summer but after receiving a record transfer fee for Calvin Bassey, it seems likely that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will dip back into the market in the coming weeks.

Following the defender’s move to Ajax, Rangers will arguably need some more cover on the left-hand side, as they currently have just Borna Barisic available as a natural in that position.

What’s the word?

One man who could arrive at Ibrox is Stoke City‘s Josh Tymon. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from the Gers after an excellent season in the Championship and while his reported £6m asking price might have previously put Rangers off, they may consider a move for him after the sale of Bassey.

In a recent interview with FootballFanCast, journalist Pete O’Rourke shared his knowledge on any potential Rangers deal for Tymon.

He said: “Tymon is somebody who has been on Rangers’ radar for most of this summer. He had a good season for Stoke last year. Has been highly talked about for a while now Josh Tymon, he’s been a top left-back as well. I think the price tag could make it difficult for Rangers to do a deal here.”

Would Tymon be a good signing?

Last season saw Tymon make 44 appearances in the Championship, as he was able to nail down a starting spot for the first time in his career.

Would Tymon be a good signing?

In those domestic appearances, he would contribute one goal and four assists, averaging a solid 6.73 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill was full of praise for the young defender last season, saying:

“He has shown great perseverance and a good mentality, and he shows really good quality in the way that he plays the game too.

“He is growing all the time and he is undoubtedly a big part of what we are trying to build here.”

After building his confidence with a strong season, Tymon looks as if he might be starting to fulfil his potential, and the attacking left-back could prove to be a hit at Ibrox.

How many signings did Rangers make in the last summer window?

While he would be an expensive option, Van Bronckhorst needs cover in his position and the club arguably have cash to burn after the sales of Bassey and Joe Aribo.

Therefore, Ross Wilson should definitely consider making a bid for Tymon this summer, as he could be an excellent replacement for the outgoing Bassey in Van Bronckhorst’s squad this summer.
