Newcastle United will prioritise the signing of a new striker following the arrival of Sven Botman at St James’ Park…
What’s the word?
That’s according to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who delivered an exciting update to GIVEMESPORT this week.
The Dutch centre-back was recently the Magpies’ third signing of the transfer window, having sealed Matt Targett on a permanent deal from Aston Villa and landed Nick Pope from relegated Burnley.
Now, it’s thought that PIF’s priority is a new frontman to lead Eddie Howe’s attack.
“I think signing a striker is the priority for them right now,” Romano claimed.
“After Sven Botman – who has been a top deal in defence – the priority will be for a striker, but they want to find the right one.”
Which striker should Newcastle sign?
Magpies are not done yet
The northeast giants have been linked with several striking options over the last few weeks, too, ranging from Everton‘s Dominic Calvert-Lewin to RB Salzburg sensation Benjamin Sesko.
A move for Hugo Etikite is now out of reach, however, as the young Reims striker has joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan for the season.
It’s no surprise to see a striker sit high on the agenda as Howe lacks quality in the position.
Chris Wood, who he signed for £25m in January, is reliable enough and has a lot of experience at this level but isn’t the out-and-out goalscorer the Magpies need to get into European reckoning – he scored only two goals across 17 appearances.
Meanwhile, Callum Wilson has struggled with an array of injuries throughout his time at St James’ Park, whilst Dwight Gayle has been left an outcast since Howe’s arrival and appears to be edging closer to an exit.
Therefore, Romano’s latest claim should leave Newcastle supporters absolutely buzzing as a new striker should be next through the door, though PIF and Dan Ashworth will need to be quick, with the new Premier League campaign less than three weeks away.
AND in other news, Newcastle “have enquired” about signing £60m “nightmare”, he’s a big Wood upgrade…
