Dharmesh Sheth has dropped an update on reported West Ham United transfer target Gianluca Scamacca.
What’s the latest?
In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter revealed that, while Rob Newman is in “advanced talks” with Chelsea regarding the transfer of 20-year-old centre-forward Armando Broja, West Ham are also very interested in the signing of the 23-year-old US Sassuolo striker – having already submitted a €40m (£34m) plus add-ons bid for the Italy international.
Regarding the club’s interest in Scamacca, Sheth said: “West Ham United are looking at the Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca. He’s another player that they are very, very interested in, and their chief executive Giovanni Carnevali was very public about the bids that had been made for the player.
“He said that PSG had made a €35m (£30m) bid plus add-ons and he went on to say that West Ham had usurped that bid by bidding €40m plus add-ons. Now, we don’t know exactly why he made that public – maybe to get PSG to raise their offer.”
Supporters will be buzzing
Considering just how exciting a talent Scamacca undoubtedly proved himself to be last season, Sheth’s suggestion that West Ham are very interested in getting a deal over the line for the 23-year-old this summer is sure to have left the London Stadium faithful buzzing.
Who would be the better signing for West Ham?
Indeed, over his 36 Serie A appearances in 2021/22, the £27m-rated talent was in scintillating form for Alessio Dionisi’s side, scoring 16 goals and creating three big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 2.2 shots, making 0.7 key passes and completing 0.6 dribbles per game.
These returns saw the £24k-per-week hitman who Matteo Bonetti claimed “would be a dream” for David Moyes average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as the Neroverdi’s second-best player in the top flight of Italian football last time out.
As such, with Michail Antonio currently being West Ham’s only recognised senior option up top, the prospect of the club landing both Scamacca and Broja this summer is sure to be an incredibly tantalising one for supporters of the east London outfit – not to mention being two signings who could very easily help take the Hammers to the next level in 2022/23.
