Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku put on diet following Inter Milan return

Following his loan return to Inter Milan this summer, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has once again been put on a strict diet by the San Siro, according to reports.

The Belgian forward arrived at Inter in 2019 overweight, but that was as a result of a failing digestive system.

“Normally I have a fine digestive system,” Lukaku told ESPN. “I digest everything very quickly.”

“That’s how it had been my entire life. But what the nutritionist said to me was, it had stopped working.”

He lost significant weight while in Italy, and was down to 101kg before his move to Chelsea last summer.

But, during a tricky spell at Stamford Bridge following his £100m move, he has returned to Inter overweight for his loan spell according to the Daily Mail, and will once more be set on a strict diet in order to rediscover his best physique and form.

‘His diet in England was substantially different from the Mediterranean cuisine he has in Italy, and the striker needs many rules in the kitchen to avoid accumulating excess weight that can affect his performance’, they claim.

Lukaku: a misunderstood striker in England?

In England, Lukaku has always been viewed as a target man striker, who is asked to hold the ball up and bring others into play. However, he has shown both at Manchester United and Chelsea that this is not his game.

He is far better when utilised, as he is with both Belgium and at Inter, as a striker allowed to run with the ball and take on defenders, something that his goals for both sides demonstrate.
