An update has emerged regarding Glasgow Rangers‘ pursuit of a new left-back signing in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Turkish journalist Gokmen Ozcan has confirmed that the Light Blues have made a bid in the region of €6.5m (£5.5m) to sign Ridvan Yilmaz.

The reporter has also claimed that the full-back is prepared to make the move to Scotland, whilst his club are seriously considering the offer.

Translated from Turkish, Ozcan tweeted: “Rangers offered Beşiktaş a bonus 6.5 million Euros for Rıdvan Yılmaz, plus a 20 percent share of the subsequent sale. The proposal is the same as in Frankfurt. But the payment terms are better. The club looks at the proposal positively. Rıdvan gave the green light to Scotland.”

Dream signing

The Gers appear to be closing in on a deal to bring the dynamo to Ibrox, and he has the potential to be a dream signing for the club.

Rangers lost Calvin Bassey in a club-record sale to Dutch giants Ajax earlier this week and his exit has left a huge gap in the squad at left-back. The 22-year-old played in the heart of the defence and on the left throughout the 2021/22 campaign as he made himself a key player for Gio van Bronckhorst.

In the Premiership, the Nigeria international caught the eye as he made 2.2 tackles and interceptions per game, whilst also creating 0.8 chances per match and registering three assists.

Bassey showed that he had the ability to be an asset at both ends of the pitch, and Yilmaz’s form for Besiktas last season suggests that he could offer a similar level of quality.

In the 2021/22 Super Lig campaign, the Turkey international made 2.8 tackles and interceptions per game and chipped in with three goals and four assists, creating 0.7 chances per match.

These statistics suggest that both players are modern full-backs who can make an impact in the final third whilst also winning the ball back for their teams on a regular basis.

At the age of 21, Yilmaz is also a year younger than Bassey and is a player with whom Van Bronckhorst could work – as he did with the Nigerian – to help him fulfill his potential over the years to come.

The Besiktas defender would therefore be a dream signing for Rangers, as he has the quality to come in and make an instant impact whilst also being an investment for the future.
