There appears to be a new chapter in the Johnny Depp–Amber Heard saga, as now they have both filed an appeal against each other’s monetary compensation awarded in their defamation case.
First it was Amber Heard, she started with the appeal process and fans all over the world were just furious about it, claiming she continues to lie.
This isn’t quite the sentiment on Johnny Depp’s side of the isle, but him and his legal team weren’t happy about the appeal, specially after they sensed that the veredict spoke for itself and proved Heard’s wrongdoing.
The appeal was filed by Depp’s legal team in Fairfax County, Virginia this past friday.
We’ve got to remember that Johnny Depp was awarded $10 million in damages and another $5 million in punitive damages during the public trial that he faced against Amber Heard, who was given a $2 million compensation as well.
Johnny Depp tought it was time to “heal and move on”
A source inside Depp’s team confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the actor thought this was a time to move on for both parties to live their lives and heal.
But since Heard’s decision was to appeal the veredict and pursue further litigation, they say they’ve been forced to do this.
“Mr Depp is filing a concurrent appeal to ensure that the full record and all relevant legal issues are considered by the Court of Appeal.”
Why is Amber Heard appealing her veredict?
Amber Heard’s legal team told the media that they thought there were several court errors that prevented them from having a just and fair veredict that was consistent with the First Amendment, therefore they had no other choice but to appeal.
“While we realise today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice”, the spokeperson insisted.
We must remember that Heard has already asked for a new trial for her case, but has since been denied by the authorities.
