Gerard Pique was booed by both sets of fans in the friendly duel between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada.

The Blaugrana came out victorious from El Clasico, with new signing Raphinha scoring the only goal in the duel before the half an hour mark to help his team secure a 1-0 win.

Given the crowd’s reaction towards Pique during the game, many Twitter users related the incident to his recent break-up with Shakira.

The couple announced earlier in the summer that they were splitting, with reports claiming that the Barcelona centre-back had allegedly cheated on the Colombian singer.

During the friendly between the two LaLiga Santander giants, some people were heard chanting “Shakira, Shakira” and fans didn’t hesitate to comment about the jeers on Twitter.

Pique deserves every single boo that he gets tonight, the entire building should let him hear it,” wrote one user, along with the hashtag #JusticeforShakira.

Meanwhile, another user indicated that “even Xavi can’t help but laugh at the boos of Pique“.

Jordi Alba’s discusses the booing of Gerard Pique

The booing of the centre-back was even a talking point after the Clasico in Las Vegas.

Asked about the boos during a press conference after the game, Pique‘s teammate Jordi Alba tried to play down the incident, claiming that the Catalan defender is not affected by the crowd booing him.

“I don’t know what the whistles are about,” Jordi Alba said.

“It’s true that we heard it, but I don’t think he’s too worried about it either. We know him.

“I think he is much more motivated when he is whistled than when he is applauded.

“He has been getting whistled at and booed for a long time, but I don’t think he is going to lose his sleep over it.”
