Orange County Sheriff’s deputies rescued a woman on Thursday whose car was swept away by an extreme current in floodwaters when the Little Econ River surged.
Five deputies formed a human chain and used rope to venture into 10 foot deep rushing water to save the unidentified woman.
Hurricane Ian and its aftermath terrorized millions of people for most of the week and officials say it’s blamed for at least 34 deaths overall, 27 of them in Florida, four in North Carolina and three in Cuba.
But authorities say they expect the death toll to rise further. As of Saturday, more than 1,000 people had been rescued from flooded homes near Florida’s southwestern coast alone.
